Sony Pictures’ Jim Amos – The Motion Picture Pioneers Foundation

An entertainment industry veteran, Jim Amos currently serves as president of domestic distribution for Sony Pictures, where he manages a 60-person team responsible for all North American sales efforts. Aside from his responsibilities with Sony Pictures, Jim Amos also serves as treasurer for the Will Rogers Motion Picture Pioneers Foundation (MPPF), an organization that provides assistance to senior entertainment industry veterans. Here is a brief overview of the MPPF. Originally established in 1939 as the Motion Picture Pioneer Assistance Fund, the MPPF was initially designed as an annual gathering of entertainment industry personalities who wanted to meet in a social setting. In 1951, the organization officially became the Foundation of Motion Picture Pioneers and changed its focus to meet the needs of industry veterans who required financial assistance. In 2002, the Foundation of Motion Picture Pioneers joined forces with the Will Rogers Memorial Fund to become the Will Rogers Motion Picture Pioneers Foundation. Today, the MPPF continues to provide financial assistance to approximately 80 industry veterans per month. The assistance can come in the form of a monthly stipend or funds to help cover the costs of medical equipment or medical rehabilitation. The organization hosts annual fundraisers, such as the Film Row Charity Golf Classic and the Pioneer of the Year Dinner, in order to continue to fulfill its mission.
